I recently completed a PhD at University College London in the interdisciplinary fields of Terrorism Studies and Linguistics, with a focus on the analysis of language use in propaganda disseminated by terrorist organisations. My research examines the appropriation of religious discourse to legitimise the political and military objectives of proscribed groups such as IS and their affiliate ISKP, as well as the radicalising impact of the narratives they promote. A key objective of my work is to inform and enhance deradicalisation initiatives by contributing to the development of effective counter-narratives and intervention strategies. I currently lead research at Radicalisation Research, where I continue to examine the media outputs of terrorist organisations to identify emerging threats, trends, and opportunities for the formulation of counter-narratives – particularly within the framework of deradicalisation programmes such as the Desistance and Disengagement Programme.
