
Jon Savell

Jon Savell joined Surrey Police in 2000 and served as a detective in every rank progressing to Assistant Chief Constable with responsibility for Specialist Crime across Sussex and Surrey. In his time at Surrey he worked on volume crime, public protection and was a Tactical and Strategic Firearms commander as well as a PIP3 Senior Investigative Officer for homicide. In 2020 he joined the Metropolitan Police at the rank of Commander and was Head of Investigations following which he spent two years as head of the Professional Standards Unit. Following a brief spell as a Local Policing Commander, in April 2024 Jon was promoted to Deputy Assistant Commissioner in Specialist Operations, one of the two deputies to the Head of Counter Terrorism Policing in the UK. Jon’s portfolio of responsibility in Specialist Operations includes Aviation Policing in the capital, Royalty and Specialist Protection (RaSP), Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection (PaDP) and Protective Security Operations. He is also Senior National Coordinator for the Protect and Prepare policing elements of the Govt’s Counter Terrorism strategy across the UK. This includes ensuring that national policing is effective with its terrorist protective security stance and is well prepared with an effective response, in partnership, for terrorist incidents.
