Darren joined the UK Immigration Service in 1991 and has held a wide range of operational, intelligence, policy, training, and international roles throughout his career. He has worked across border operations, inland investigations, and overseas postings, and has extensive experience developing intelligence-led and data-driven approaches to border security. He previously served as Product Owner for the UK's e-Borders programme, Head of Targeting and Intelligence (Aviation), and led the development of the UK's Pre-Load Data Targeting capability for aviation security.
Today he leads a major Border Force transformation programme focused on AI-enabled screening, advanced imaging technologies, networked image analysis, and the next generation of goods detection capabilities. Working closely with government, industry, academia, and international customs partners, he is helping shape the future of border security and trade facilitation through innovation, technology, and data-driven decision making.
