
Professor Annette Southgate
Professor Annette Southgate leads the Home Office’s Accelerated Capability Environment (ACE). ACE is a key capability solving frontline digital and technology challenges, staffed through a Civil Service/Private Sector partnership with broad reach into academia, industry (primes and small medium enterprise organisations) and the third sector. Prior to leading ACE, Annette worked at Cranfield University as Theme Director for Security on secondment from Government and remains a visiting Professor whilst championing Government engagement with academia through sponsorship of NSEC. Annette has 18 years’ experience in leading teams in a variety of technical, innovation, IT service delivery and project management roles within Government - the common thread being a focus on delivery, mission impact and building teams where work is fun, rewarding and enables personal growth.
Prior to working in Government, Annette worked in a project and programme management consultancy, following completion of her science PhD. as a collaborative project between Birkbeck, University of London and the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew’s Millennium Seedbank Project. Annette is Chartered Project Manager and qualified mentor and coach and enjoys working with colleagues to support their career development. Outside work Annette enjoys spending time with her family including two children, creating fused glass art and being outdoors as much as possible!
