Stronger, simpler security with new release of EdgeConnector
EdgeConnector physical access control software from Dot Origin radically simplifies and strengthens access management. EdgeConnector’s unique design extends the power and flexibility of pre-existing IT system access controls to encompass IP connected doors and locks. This delivers a unified user-access management solution that spans physical and logical controls enterprise-wide, with no additional databases or sync-servers; streamlining system architectures and permissions administration tasks while protecting data and supporting compliance requirements with real-time cyber-physical controls.
The security benefits EdgeConnector brings include: streamlined processes for staff on-boarding and off-boarding, the capability to combine IT and physical access permissions within a common role-based security model, monitoring and management of physical access rights for personnel across multiple sites ‘straight out of the box’, and access permission updates that take effect at doors in real-time. The solution’s unified design philosophy also makes it possible to easily apply additional user-location centred control over digital access to sensitive data and critical applications; restricting these resources to authorized users within secure areas only.
Dan Isaaman, Chief Technical Officer and co-founder of Dot Origin, said: “We developed our integrated physical access control solution from an IT perspective, with a scalable, standards-based, security-focused design. EdgeConnector is unlike anything else - traditional industry approaches to linking physical and IT access systems are complex, typically based around site-centric proprietary solutions for door access, and can’t deliver real-time unified access control decision-making.”
Release 3.7 of EdgeConnector enhances door status monitoring with the capability to view controlled doors and areas on interactive floor plans within the EdgeManager client application; graphically displaying door states and alerts, such as door forced, door held and tamper alarms. A colour-coded door alert window is also provided to highlight potential issues.
Door management features have been extended to allow schedules to be set for door unlocking, enabling regular periods of open-access to public areas, and for specifying scheduled times when PIN pad authentication is also to be required. To simplify the management of door schedules across global installations time-zones can be assigned to doors.
The range of supported IP door control hardware from all vendors continues to grow wider. Integration with ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio® range of wireless locks has been extended; covering the IN100 solution for North American customers and the European H100 model that’s designed to be easily retro-fitted to a wide range of internal doors. With EdgeConnector, Aperio locks are connected directly to the network using the Aperio IP hub. Wired door control hardware integrations now incorporate the latest A1601 from Axis Communications and the VertX V2000 EVO from HID Global.
EdgeConnector V3.7 is now available as a free upgrade to existing supported EdgeConnector users, and for all new customers installing an EdgeConnector solution on Active Directory.
