Defence and Security Accelerator

DSAH71The Defence and Security Accelerator focuses on innovations which can provide advantage to defence and national security to protect the UK from its adversaries. It will fund the development of suppliers’ innovative ideas and provide support through to potential application. The Accelerator will also fund innovations for defence and security which support economic growth and prosperity in the UK. Stakeholders will be encouraged to experiment and collaborate and help overcome barriers to exploitation.

We are responsible for:

  • Funding proof-of-concept research that offers a high potential benefit to defence and security
  • Opening up defence and security challenges to the widest possible audience of providers, including those new to defence and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • Helping to take Accelerator-funded projects towards market

Our priorities are to:

  • Extend our reach to anyone with innovative ideas
  • Hold regular themed competitions to address specific defence and security challenges
  • Promote the monthly Accelerator Open Call for Innovation to more broadly capture potential innovations that address the most important problems in defence
  • Improve routes to commercialisation, following initial Accelerator proof-of-concept funding

Home Office JSARC

JSARCThe Joint Security and Resilience Centre (JSaRC) has been established to help the government and UK security sector suppliers work more closely – making it quicker and simpler to bring customers and solutions together. JSaRC is a unit inside the Office for Security and Counter Terrorism (OSCT) within the Home Office.

The Home Office, supported by RISC (an inclusive alliance of UK security and resilience organisations) has committed an initial £11m, and the security sector (both industry and academia) has committed matched funding in the form of: people, expertise and facilities (on either a temporary or a permanent basis) to JSaRC.

What we do

  • Deliver a joint response to the UK’s national security challenges
  • Drive the delivery of the right solutions
  • Support the growth of the security sector

JSaRC will:

  • help identify and shape government security requirements
  • help co-ordinate cross-government requirements
  • support small and medium enterprises
  • help build procurement knowledge and capabilities for those wishing to deal with government

Secured by Design

secured-by-design-gov-zoneThe official UK Police flagship initiative combining the principles of 'designing out crime' with physical security.

Established in 1989, Secured by Design (SBD) is the title for a group of national police projects focusing on the design and security for new and refurbished homes, commercial premises and car parks as well as the acknowledgement of quality security products and crime prevention projects. It supports the principles of ‘designing out crime’ through physical security and processes.

Secured by Design works with the industry and test houses to create high level security standards, responding to trends in crime, and has given input on a number of key standards .The principles of the scheme have been proven to reduce the risk of crime and the fear of crime.
